Tips for a great experience at The National Science Center's
Fort Discovery
Before Your TripFort Discovery
- After receiving your contract, sign and send back as soon as possible. Your camp-in is not confirmed until Fort Discovery receives your signed contract.
- The fully completed registration worksheet is due to Fort Discovery at least 2 weeks prior to your camp-in.
- Review behavior expectations with your campers and chaperones.
- Give all parents the phone number of Fort Discovery’s Security Guard for any emergencies. 706.821.0252
- Sleeping bag / bed roll
- Air mattresses are welcome for adults, but not provided by Fort Discovery
- Basic toiletries (toothbrush/paste, etc.)
- Wash cloth and face towel
- Spending money for super souvenirs from The Science Store!
- Pajamas (plan to sleep in your clothes)
- Hair dryers, radios or other electrical devices
- Candy, gum, food and drinks are not allowed in the Center unless otherwise specified
- Deliveries of outside food are not permitted.
- Parking is provided in our parking garage, accessible from Seventh Street.
- Buses – please make prior arrangements with our Sales Manager.
- Enter Fort Discovery from the RiverWalk entrance.
- Group leaders will check in at the registration table located in the front lobby when all campers in your group have arrived.
- Admittance into the Center and check-in begins at 5:30 pm. Your coordinator will greet you at the registration table and explain the registration process. Activities will begin promptly at 6 pm.
The meals will be served buffet style. If you have a camper with special dietary needs, please contact the Sales Manager as soon as possible to make other arrangements. We will provide campers a snack of Crackers, pretzels and juice halfway through your evening activities.
During Your Camp-In- Listen for announcements and respond immediately to the directions given.
- Accompany your group during all activities.
- No one should leave the Center after registration without making arrangements with the coordinator.
- At lights out, you are responsible for keeping your group quiet and in their sleeping areas. Please be respectful of those who are trying to sleep.
- Come to the Security Office if you are lost, need help or are in need of First Aid.
- If you have any questions or concerns, please discuss them with the coordinator before you leave.
- Please fill out our survey and give to our coordinator.
- Campers will have a scheduled time to visit The Science Store before leaving the Center.
- Once campers make a purchase, they should leave The Science Store before opening their bags.
Our Sales Manager will organize your event and will assign a coordinator to take the lead and stay overnight with you during your event. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Sales Manager.
